Friends of the Derby believe that every child should have the right to access quality education so that every child, regardless of circumstance, can be the best that they can be.
Worryingly, lockdown is putting the educational outcomes for some children at risk. As promised, most schools, including The Derby High School, have received an allocation of laptops. But there is a substantial shortfall between the laptops that they have been able to distribute and the number of students who are still in need.
The Derby High School has worked tirelessly to source additional laptops. Staff and community partners have donated their laptops, and the school has made numerous bids for technical support. Despite distributing nearly 200 laptops to students, including those held by the school’s IT department, a high percentage of students still do not have access to a laptop at home.
The Derby High School is justifiably proud of the number of “live” lessons they can provide to students. But if students cannot access these lessons remotely, they will have to attend school, affecting the school's ability to continue to provide the number of “live” lessons that they currently do.
The school remains committed to delivering the best possible experience for every student. Our school community is coming together to ensure that every single child continues with "live" lessons. Friends of the Derby has pledged to support the school by reaching out to local businesses to ask for support. Any contribution will directly fund the purchase of a digital device for a student, making all the difference to them during these challenging times.
Together we will make a difference to the lives of our young people. Thank you for your support.
