Thankyou for thinking about supporting our students - we are excited to be able to tell you how you can help.
Like many schools, we are developing new ways of remote and blended learning and our pupils are coming to terms with learning in their own home environment. However, there are many families within our community who simply are not in the position to buy laptops or tablets and some of our vulnerable pupils are falling behind in their learning because they just cannot access the resources available to them.
We want our children to succeed and have provided as many laptops as the school can afford as well as passing on all the devices we have received from the DfE but there just aren't enough to meet the needs of our families.
Not enough laptops for proper learning at home
Households with two, three or even more children at home have to work from a single laptop - and those single devices are often needed by their parents who might also be working from home as well.. Students cannot study for the 4-5 hours they need to a day if they have to rely on a single shared device.
This, in turn, is having a significant impact on their mental well being and will mean they will struggle to catch up when schools finally do return to normal. The effects could be devastating and long term.
We are asking our community to come together now to help purchase laptops for our vulnerable pupils to enable them to study at home. BGGS Headteacher Ms Pritpal Hyare puts it like this:
"Our aim is to provide every BGGS pupil with a dedicated laptop to ensure that they all have access to online learning during these difficult times. We don't want them to have to share, we want them to have a device just for them. Learning is a top priority and we don't want our students to waste a single minute when they could have a device in front of them and be learning."
£300 will buy one laptop/chromebook.
Our aim is to provide every pupil within our school a laptop or Chromebook to ensure that they all have access to online learning if, or when, learning is disrupted by families having to isolate, or we end up in a local lock down situation.
Your donation will go directly towards the purchase of these new laptops/Chromebooks, which we will loan to our vulnerable students during lockdown and if social distancing measures continue for the rest of the year. When we return to normal, the devices will continue to be used for home learning, and in school to support our most vulnerable pupils or to replace any old, outdated equipment we currently have in school.
We are asking you to help by donating £10, £25 or whatever you can afford. We appreciate your support at whatever level is appropriate for you.
You can make a difference!
Please reach into your hearts and donate to help our school and our vulnerable pupils at this incredibly challenging time. They will be blessed by your donation and you will know you have invested in the life of a local child.
