Greenhead College sports teams have helped so many young people fulfil their sporting potential, reaching national finals of major competitions and winning many trophies.
In recent times college funding has fallen significantly to the extent that replacing the sports kits has become a burden on finances that we are struggling to cope with. All the sports kits currently need replacing at a cost of £500 per kit. We really hope that you can donate what you can afford to help young people flourish in their chosen sport.
On Wednesday afternoon’s the college comes to life when our regular sporting fixtures take place and we compete against other colleges in badminton, basketball, football, hockey, netball, rugby league and tennis.
In 2018, we won the West Yorkshire College leagues in basketball, netball and football, demonstrating the strength and depth of our sporting teams. Our women’s hockey team defended their College’s National Cup title for a second consecutive year by beating Exeter College in the grand final at Cannock Hockey Club. Our mixed badminton team came third in the National Cup for a second consecutive year at the England Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes, flying the flag for Yorkshire against some tough opposition from the South.
Many of our students gain County, Regional and sometimes National recognition in their sport highlighting their commitment and dedication to training. Currently we have representatives in athletics, cycling, cross - country, hockey, karate, netball and rugby league.
In April 2018, 54 students represented Yorkshire and Humberside in the AoC Sport National Championships in Nottingham. We were one of the largest participating colleges in the country and participated in a variety of sport, namely badminton, basketball, cross-country, hockey, netball, table tennis and tennis.
